Privacy

WeirdSTL is a small, independent history site. It has no accounts, no ads, no comments and no newsletter, so there is very little to collect. Here is exactly what happens when you visit.
Analytics. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which stories people read. Cloudflare describes it as privacy-first: it does not use cookies and does not follow visitors from one site to another. The numbers are aggregate, and nobody here is looking up individual readers.
Hosting. WeirdSTL is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub may keep standard server logs, such as your IP address, under its own privacy statement.
What stays in your browser. If you switch between light and dark mode, that choice is saved in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers it. It is never sent anywhere. Site search runs entirely in your browser.
The map. The Map page loads the Leaflet map library from unpkg.com and map tiles from OpenStreetMap. Those services see your IP address when the page loads, as they would on any site that uses them. Nothing else on the site loads them.
Links out. Map links open Google Maps, and source links open other websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and nothing is sent to them unless you click.
What we don’t do. We don’t sell data, run advertising, build profiles, or collect your name or email address.
If this ever changes, this page will change first.
